B1 and B2 – Mobile devices in class - advanced skills and methods

Participants expand their knowledge about lesson-specific uses of iPads. The modules are designed to help teachers diversify their repertoire and empower them to apply their skills meaningfully. At the end of the course, the participants will also be able to effectively plan and supervise long-term projects at their school.

Description

  • Since the topics are geared towards intermediate users, participants should be proficient in their basic functions. After learning about collaborative work methods and creative uses of iWorks apps, participants also learn about digital media. This is not restricted to creating them on the iPad (f.e. with iMovie or Garage Band), but also how they can best be integrated into various subject-specific scenarios as well as methods to employ them purposefully for fostering students’ digital competences.
  • Since media creation will often include material featuring the students themselves, data safety will also be covered. The last day is spent learning how to design long-term projects that incorporate mobile devices.
  • The B1-B2 refers to competencies described in the European Framework for the Digital Competence of Educators (DigCompEdu).

Learning objectives

This course empowers participants to:

  • Utilize strategies for the use of mobile devices that extend beyond basic processing of lesson materials
  • Use media creation as a means to enhance their students’ learning
  • Plan and execute long-term projects involving mobile devices in a goal-oriented fashion
  • Broaden their knowledge about digital media and learn how to foster students’ media competency

Methodology & assessment

Through the modules, the course will convey the required knowledge to the participants and give them the opportunity to apply their newfound skills to a variety of real-world problems. The course is structured in a sequence of modules which focus on using iPads in accordance to the competencies B1 and B2 as outlined in the DigicompEdu Progression model. The topics are mainly explored through the perspective of teachers as well as students.
